Filippo Mambretti was born in Como, Italy, where he grew up surrounded by the world of craftsmanship. His grandparents, artisans working with furniture and sculpture, introduced him to the value of materials, the intelligence of making, and the cultural heritage of design. During his artistic studies, an encounter with Bruno Munari further influenced his perspective, leading him to Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated in Interior Design and Furniture Design. Today, Mambretti combines his professional practice with a strong commitment to design education. He leads his own design studio,  based in Switzerland, collaborating internationally with companies in the fields of product, furniture, and lighting design. Alongside his creative work, he teaches and collaborates with institutions including CSIA, SSS_AA, IED, and Politecnico di Milano. His projects have received numerous international design awards and recognitions. His approach to design goes beyond the pursuit of novelty. Rooted in an appreciation for design history and culture, it questions the meaning, longevity, and genuine necessity of objects. Designing, in his view, does not always mean creating something entirely new. It can also mean observing what already exists, understanding its value, and guiding it through a conscious evolution: improving without erasing, updating without betraying, and innovating without forgetting. For Mambretti, design is both a reflection of contemporary society and a means of anticipating its transformations. Working between material, light, form, and proportion, he seeks a balance between cultural awareness, functional intelligence, and contemporary sensibility, creating objects that engage with the present while preserving depth, identity, and authenticity. Because design, before it becomes form, is a choice of meaning.
